Nina & Mehdi in Kuwait |

Out for a night by the ocean, Oct. 15 2002 |
Mehdi and I went out for a night by the beach with his parents.

Mehdi with a hooka |

|
Here's Mehdi smoking a hooka by the beach. This is a popular hang out experience in Kuwait. The hooka is a waterpipe that you smoke with. It is lit by coals and the tobacco is always flavored. This particular tobacco was a strawberry tobaco. The first time I went to a "hooka place" I thought somebody had spilled a tub of Koolaide on the street--this is what strawberry tobacco smells like.

Only Camel I saw in Kuwait, was at a funpark |

|
Nina & Camel |
Contrary to popular belief, camels are not running rampant throughout Kuwait. In fact, this was the only Camel I saw during my entire trip--and it was at a funpark. Kuwait is a modern day city that reminded me a lot of modern day cities in Asia--could it be all the building signs in a foreign language? :)

House in Kuwait |

|
Most homes in Kuwait would be considered mansions in the U.S. This home is a typical Kuwaiti residence for Kuwaiti nationals. While I was in Kuwait I saw many new homes being built. Many green plants were also being planted (Kuwait has recently been able to successfully grow shrubs and trees and they are now being planted at a rapid pace).
